ABOUT US

WINDY & WALLFLOWER is a duo of queer weirdos based in Tiohtià:ke (Montréal) writing wild shit and making weird shit. Look, we can sit and chit chat about what we love about what we do and for most of that relating to our stories you’re gonna wanna head over and deep dive our main website:

But if you want to know a little bit more about “How The Sausage Gets Made” as it were, here’s the long and short of it.

THE SHORT OF IT

We design every object we make, hand drawing that thing in a program, carefully offering it up to our manufacturers and letting them perform the magic of turning them into items and objects. They send them over to us. We look them over, cry / freakout / send them a big weepy email about how cool they look… and then we take them to conventions~

THE LONG OF IT

WINDY & WALLFLOWER prides itself on making things.

WINDY & WALLFLOWER prides itself on making things. We’re makers. We’re artists. We hand draw everything we create from comics to merch and everything in between. All our books are designed by us, cover to cover on top of us drawing the whole dang thing. We’re fascinated with creating stories that represent queer folks like us… but we’re not here to sugar coat anything. We’re people interested in writing human stories…. even if the characters aren’t exactly human themselves. All of our stories feature ENTIRELY queer casts of varying shapes, sizes, identities, backgrounds. Sure we’ve got a bias in a few areas, but who doesn’t? We’re always looking to expand and grow our narratives as much as we’re looking to expand and grow our knowledge on creation.

Speaking of creation…. we try to keep as much of our manufacturing as local as possible. All of our books are printed either in Quebec or Ontario, all of our embroidery and screen printing is done right here in the city. We’re always looking towards sourcing things as close to home as possible now that we’ve been doing this a while and have learned a bit more about the tools of the trade. The real dream is to do the embroidery ourselves, keep our minimums low, keep prices as low as we can. Step by step we’re making it work. (You can click here to find out what’s made in Canada if you’re curious).

For items we CAN’T make local, we outsource, yeah, very often we manufacture in China. We do our best to make sure everyone’s certificates are up to date and, where possible we try to make things with Eco-conscious materials (our blankets are 100% recycled cotton). Some things are a little bit bigger than we can manage so our first run is not the most effective way to make the thing we wanna make, but our efforts double in a second wave.

We’re small but we try to hold ourselves to as conscious a standard we can. There are limitations for product, but where packaging is concerned; you’re gonna get boxes we’ve been hoarding from online sales; from orders, plastic sleeves we received our zipper pouches in; we re-use for books with more sensitive covers/protection during transit. Look, it ain’t exactly pretty but if it’ll keep your items safe we’re willing to hoard what packing stock we got and re-use it where feasible.

Some of you who have ordered from us before maybe know this already–yeah… so we got ourselves some ergonomic New Balance shoes shhh, don’t tell anyone, we just do a lot of walking and a lot of standing when we’re pushing orders and running a small business all over the city.

But when we CAN’T re-use from our own personal online ordering… we purchase eco-friendly & compostable through places like: Wolf Pack, EcoEnclose or Friendly Mailer.

WINDY
HARPY/TAS

Harpy is a real artist at heart. She sits squarely in the weird intersection of funky cartoons and dark subjects, all with striking fun colours. Dinosaurs and anything prehistory is his favourite. For comics, she’s the one on sketches and colours.

WALLFLOWER
HIVVER/WINTER

Hivver is the ink master and writer. His work is bold, fluid and full of striking design. You’ll find most of the Greek Mythology stuff is his domain. For comics, he’s often the writer and inker, and also the author of most of our prose.
